Researchers Reveal Food Hazards Over Flies

Fly is an insect that is often found around us. However, not many know if they bring hundreds of species of harmful bacteria to humans.

Researchers from Pennsylvania State University in the United States even warned people not to eat foods that have been infected with flies.

In a study of microbiology of 116 flies, researchers found that flies carry hundreds of different bacterial species. Many of them are harmful to humans.
“We believe that this may indicate a mechanism of pathogen transmission that has been ignored by public health workers, and flies may contribute to the rapid transmission of pathogens in epidemic situations,” said Donald Bryant, of Pennsylvania State University.

The researchers then investigated the microbial content of the body parts of flies, including legs and wings.

Researchers from Pennsylvania State University, Stephan Schuster say that the feet appear to be part of the body of the largest fly transferring microbial organisms from one place to another.

“The legs and wings show the highest microbial diversity in the body of flies, suggesting that bacteria use flies as air transport,” Schuster said.

The possibility of bacteria able to survive in the body flies then grows and spreads on new surfaces.
“In fact, research shows that every step of hundreds of flies that fly carries a microbial colony, especially if new surfaces support bacterial growth,” he said.

Blowflies and house flies that are a species of carrion fly, use dirt and rotting organic matter to nurture their child.

The study, published in the journal Scientific Reports, also shows that blowflies and flies have more than 50 percent microbiomes and mixtures of microorganisms that are bad for the body.
